Owner of the meadow floral design and entrepreneurial start up queen Irissa knight opens up about her passion and how she felt lettering has changed her daily life. She attended one of the first ever ymt workshops and has enthusiastically sent me texts of her lettering progress ever since. Not only is she an inspiring business owner she is a really good friend of mine and was the first ever client to invest into my dream, you’re my type, by commissioning me to create a chalkboard art for her new florist shop ( and heaps more after that). Have a read of her journey below.

Whats your favourite flower and why?
Hydrangeas. They always remind me of my grandmothers. Nana had a garden full of beautiful pink ones and my grandmother had beautiful blue and purple. I just think their colour is so stunning and even their leaves are beautiful.
I also really love roses, having them in a vase next to my bed makes me feel like a lady!

what do you love most about being a florist?
I love the relationship I have with my customers, new or old. What a privilege it is to be able to connect with people through flowers in the joyous occasions but also to bring comfort through flowers to those who are experiencing the hardest times in their life.

Who has inspired you along your journey?
When I was studying floristry, I read a book that Cath Kidston had written about her business journey. Even though she wasn’t a florist, I really connected with her values on staying true to yourself and to your brand. Definitely felt inspired by her!

What did you like about the lettering workshop?
I loved how relaxing it was. It was nice to just be able to sit there and work through the workbook at my own pace. Ella was really encouraging and by sharing her own experience and journey with us, it put us all at ease knowing that you just have to start somewhere. I honestly just loved the whole thing!!!

How has lettering impacted your daily life now?
When I’m feeling a bit tired or stressed, I just sit down and practice my lettering. I love writing out my favourite song lyrics for something fun and writing pointless letters to whoever is sitting nearby!
